Soil Organic Matter, Soil Structure, and Bacterial Community Structure in a Post-Agricultural Landscape

چکیده

Converting forest and wetland landscapes to agriculture has shown result in a loss of organic matter, structure, microbial diversity the converted soil but recovery post-agricultural soils remains poorly understood. Here we coupled landscape-scale surveys 1) carbon nitrogen levels, 2) aggregation, 3) bacterial metagenomes investigate after 30 years sites with ranging from well drained drained. Sites no evidence past (Reference) served as endpoints. A secondary aim evaluated role nitrogen-fixing symbiosis, here associated alder ( Alnus incana ) trees, restoration. Soil levels restored (3.5%) were comparable present-day farm (3.4%) much lower than Reference (>7.3%). The same trend occurred levels. trees had more acidic pH values. Alder promoted structure macroaggregates being largest fraction bulk (75%). Natural abundance stable isotopes suggested extensive decay matter within aggregates. Comparison total reads indicated community sites, except for well-drained alder. Dissimilarity among terms gene abundances metabolism, membrane transport, genetic repair pathways. is slow when caused large case our study, changed markedly, it did study. However, fairly rapid noted promising, now need better understanding plant species that improve restoration both soils.

Soil Organic Matter: Its Fractionation and Role in Soil Structure

An understanding of the form and function of SOM in soil is essential to sustainable crop production. Various methods of SOM fractionation are used to study SOM forms and to gain an understanding of interaction between SOM and aggregate formation. Physical SOM fractionation techniques are based on the concept that SOM associated with particles of various sizes. differs in structure and function...

Bacterial community structure and soil properties of a subarctic tundra soil in Council, Alaska

The subarctic region is highly responsive and vulnerable to climate change. Understanding the structure of subarctic soil microbial communities is essential for predicting the response of the subarctic soil environment to climate change. To determine the composition of the bacterial community and its relationship with soil properties, we investigated the bacterial community structure and proper...

Rhizodeposition shapes rhizosphere microbial community structure in organic soil.

The aims of the study were to determine group specificity in microbial utilization of root-exudate compounds and whole rhizodeposition; quantify the proportions of carbon acquired by microbial groups from soil organic matter and rhizodeposition, respectively; and assess the importance of root-derived C as a driver of soil microbial community structure. Additions of 13C-labelled root-exudate com...

A critical review on structure-soil-structure interaction

The purpose of this paper is to review computational methods in structure-soil-structure interaction. As a result of globalization, buildings are located close to each other. This issue happens especially in big cities, making the study of structure-soil-structure interaction as an essential part of structural design process. The effect of soil medium, on which the building structure stands, es...

Nematode community structure in a vineyard soil.

Distribution of the nematode community in a California vineyard was studied over a 13-month period. Omnivorous and microbivorous nematodes were similarly distributed in the root zone, with greatest densities occurring between vine rows and near the soil surface. Greatest densities of plant-parasitic nematodes were found in the vine row, with the individual species differing in their vertical di...
